CD98: Ashley DeGroote - November 21, 2008

As the first month of Bruce Power's energy assessment is coming to an end, an EA Public Participation Coordinator says there's much more to come. Peter Brown says so far the assessment has started a process to understanding the community and environment, marrying the technology of nuclear with the environment and determining if its feasible . He says that already one advantage of the Nanticoke site is transmission and exploring possibilities. He also says that Bruce wants to enable the community to understand the process and to make up their own mind about nuclear in Haldimand-Norfolk. The group will be hosting several open houses and community information sessions from 3-8pm:

December 1 - Port Dover Lions Community Centre

December 2 - Jarvis Community Centre

December 3 - Simcoe Recreation Centre

December 4 - Cayuga Kinsmen Community Centre

COMMENTS: Re: Month One of Energy Assessment Down - Much More To Come

Bruce Power is a private corporation and private corporations aren't empowered to conduct energy assessments. What we have here is an information operations project that is costing big dollars with the expressed purpose of overwhelming the public and pressuring local government to sign on the dotted line. Look a Germany's model of renewable energy. Their clean simple options have replaced ALL the nuclear power plants in that country. Hae a close look at the "debt retirement" charge on your hydro bill. You're still paying for the folly and lies of Darlington & Pickering multiple cost overruns.

Why all the meetings and talks any idea about the jobs it would bring into the area its not like we need it so many job losses and here we have a company that wants to come here let them in

Have you noticed the number of old buildings being torn down, burned, sent to landfill?Old ginsing shade burning?Seen the bins of scrap wood at new home construction or remodeling?Huge piles of sawdust at sawmills? All of this and more could generate electricity.create jobs. How many people do you know do you want in a nuclear plant.Ask the nuke boys how many bodies are stored worldwide in nuclear storage.

I was aware that Bruce Power had applied for an Ea, I was not aware that they had been granted the EA by the Federal government. When did this happen, or has it?

The debt retirement is for Ontario Hydro and the mismanagement, not Bruce power.

many more than against I'm afraid. To be honest I can't think of one person I've talked to that is against the idea of growing our region and adding some much needed tax dollars to the county or the creation of jobs.

Debt retirement IS what the taxpayer has been suckered in to pay for Darlington etc so private nuclear companies can turn a profit.I have nothing against profit, except when I have to pay someone elses debt. It,s on your hydro bill and should be listed under Smoke And Mirrors.

This beautiful region of southern Ontario should not be blemished with a Nuclear power plant the damage to the local biosphere would last for years to come.
