Bruce Power backs digital mammography project at NGH

Simcoe Reformer: February 6, 2009

Bruce Power of Tiverton made a surprise announcement Thursday at a Lions Club banquet in Simcoe.

Lynn Hewitt, a Bruce Power community liaison, came to the Simcoe Recreation Centre with a cheque for $6,000.

The funds will back the Simcoe Lions’ bid to generate $30,000 in April for the purchase of a $600,000 digital mammography unit for Norfolk General Hospital.

The Simcoe Lions will donate all proceeds from their annual spring production to the mammography project. This year’s musical is titled Motown: Sweet Soul Music. It will be staged April 2-4 in the gymnasium of Simcoe Composite School.

Bruce Power is undertaking a $30 million environmental study in the Nanticoke Industrial Park. The utility is trying to determine whether this is an appropriate site for two nuclear reactors. Since expressing an interest in the Haldimand-Norfolk area last year, Bruce Power has extended financial support to a host of community projects.
