from Nanticoke Bruce Nuclear – Minister

Queen’s Park – Ontario’s Energy Minister has gone a step further in underlining the province’s position on the Bruce Nuclear proposal at Nanticoke – Ontario does not encourage the project, nor does it plan on buying power from it.

In responding to questions from NDP MPP Peter Tabuns a week ago, Minister George Smitherman told the Standing Committee on Estimates that with regard to the nuclear proposal at Nanticoke/ Port Dover: “it’s not the province of Ontario's intention to be involved in the encouragement or purchase of any power that might theoretically be created by such a facility.”

When further pressed to clarify that the province had no, “intention of buying power from them,” Minister Smitherman stated his intentions were clear.

“I don’t think anyone searching the record is lacking clarity about the government’s viewpoint on that,” Smitherman concluded.
